The Four Horsemen.
Sketches of Ghost Girl, ghosts, and other stuff. Lower right is the first concept I had for Monsters and Dames 2014 submission. Maybe next year!
Instead of taking my time for drawings, I iterate a lot. Alot. I started using pen so I couldn’t erase or labor over my drawings. If you look at my sketchbook, it’s mostly rubbish.
The Boy Who Lived. Part of the Ltd. Gallery show “Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words”. You can purchase the original here (and prints too).
This is Frank. He’s a character design I did for a cartoon pitch called “The Normal Family”. The premise of the show was a group of spooky kids are orphaned after a horrible accident and go to live with their normal suburban aunt and uncle. Frank’s brain was removed for “safe keeping” by his brother. His lack of brain has helped his popularity and football ability.
In honor of Halloween I’ll be posting some more spooky kids this week.
This is one from the vault and I’m surprised I’ve never posted it. So HURAGHHHFFF.
Also: four of my pieces are in G1988 "Crazy 4 Cult: Cult Movie art 2" book. Swell!
Since it’s PAX weekend and I feel like I’m hungover despite not drinking, I’m going to cop out and post something REALLY old. This piece is called “Warstory” and it’s from my Junior year at RISD. The was a standard assignment to illustrate an article from a magazine called Plansponsor. The catch was that this was that this article wasn’t published yet and one member from the class would get the job.Great for the students, and great for the art director because she got to choose from many concepts.
While I didn’t get the job, my girlfriend at the time did. I wasn’t burnt up because this was where I really started to hit my stride as an artist. I was starting to realize that I could draw almost anything I wanted to and still meet the conceptual requirements of a “traditional illustration job”. This article was about a divorce.
It’s good to look back and be able to say how much I’ve improved as an illustrator, but not only as an illustrator, but as a human being.
